No Need to Travel Far for Your Next Adventure
Social media will sometimes make us believe we aren't living life if we're not on the next flight to Bali or Paris. Trust me, when I see those flawless travel photos with a hot babe in the middle of an island, I instantly want to book my next trip. Little did I know, there was so much to explore in my own backyard.
I live in a quiet suburban area in Maryland, only 30 minutes from Washington, DC. -- the nation's capital. I work and play in the city, then come home to the peace and quiet that I currently enjoy. I remember my first trip to the National Mall, at 8 years old. My mom took my sister and I to see the White House and the Washington Monument which we called the pencil as children. I thought I was in a whole new world. The monuments, memorials, museums, green spaces, parks -- all within walking distance. We took a cab from our home to the city, and it was an experience I'll never forget.
After that, I didn’t return until I was a young adult. I interned in the city but had no sense of the arts and culture that thrives within DC. I was determined to explore and step away from my usual day-to-day commute. Now, my current goal is to try a new restaurant each month!
When was the last time you went to an art show, explored a local museum, dined at a highly recommended spot, biked through the city, engaged in a water sport or simply took a walk within your area? Believe me, as tempting as it is to book a flight across the globe, I want you to know that sometimes a staycation is just as lit. Round up your girlfriends or grab bae and:
Try a new restaurant and brunch brunch brunch
Explore a museum you've never been to
Take in street art
Book a hotel for a night or two
Go dancing at a local nightclub
View a play at the theater
